In terms of specific knowledge regarding a certain make/model? Forums that are dedicated for that specific car are usually the best place to start. Luckily I ground my teeth while I was younger and wasted a LOT of money learning things to hard way (buying the wrong parts, rushing into things and not being patient.etc). They are cheap and unless it's something fairly new it'll also be cheap and easy to work on. I would say best way to learn basic automotive/engine stuff is to buy a small moped or motorcycle. Either way this car has been a really fun experience especially when it comes to trying to find parts and the reward when you do find that super rare part you thought didn't exist. Have had it for almost 8 years now and its been a really fun car to build and drive.
